If you haven’t heard yet (it’s everywhere!), Mobilegeddon is coming. Tomorrow. So what are you going to do about it?
On April 21, Google will roll out an algorithm update that will change the way mobile-friendliness is determined for search rankings. Simply, Google will give higher rankings to sites that pass its Mobile-Friendliness Test.
Why Does This Matter to Talent Acquisition?
For many organizations that have tabled mobile-optimizing their career sites, get ready to drastically drop in search rankings. Plus:
- More than 60% of all Google searches are performed on mobile devices―and that number is expected to grow.
- Plus, 30% of all Google searches, about 300 million per month, are employment related.
Now, more than ever, talent acquisition teams need to create the best possible candidate experience―by ensuring the candidate’s mobile journey is engaging from career site to content to contact capture to apply. You should be thinking about a multi-screen experience, one that feels consistent throughout devices, particularly since many candidates start their research from mobile and apply from their desktop. When addressing mobile in your recruiting strategy, the career site is just one component.
Are you thinking about the other critical pieces? Get our guidelines for assessing and launching your mobile strategy in Starting Your Mobile Recruiting Strategy: The Checklist.
Here’s a peek at three starting points from our checklist:
Experience what your candidates do. Navigate the mobile candidate experience of your career site and recruiting communications, including viewing your emails and landing pages from different mobile devices.
Understand the metrics. When’s the last time you seriously looked at your Google Analytics for career site traffic sources? Make sure your career site URL is being tracked―and monitor traffic sources month-to-month.
Know the possibilities. Set up a discussion with your career site technology provider to understand what their full capabilities are around mobile and measurement. (See the full list of questions to ask in our checklist.)
